Waiting.  Waiting for the dream to begin.

Three hours until the ferry is supposed to leave.  Four hours of driving to get this close.  The boat was delayed arriving and now departing.  The sun set an hour ago and the boat cannot catch up.

Food to explore.  Drinks to test.  Beds to stretch out on.  Silence of the night as the boat gently rocks.  Oh, I hope it is gentle.  Very gentle.

Other passengers seem to be happy to return home.  I heard them speaking Spanish and laughing and enjoying a last bite of Italian food.
I have to admit that my terminal food wasn’t so great.  The wine was good and it lessoned the disappointment.  I asked for s small bottle and they served me s large bottle.  Oh well.  It was meant to be.  It was a good bottle.  No.  It was the highlight of the day.

Winter in Southern Italy

There was a Wendy’s hamburger commercial back in the 80’s that featured a stocky Russian woman in beach wear catching a ball as she said “Vinter Vear” and then again catching a beach ball saying “Summer Vear.”  I guess Wendy’s was saying all other burgers were the same, but Wendy’s burgers were different.

There are only a few weeks in the summer and a few weeks in the winter that are unpleasant here in the Naples area; low 90’s and upper 30’s.  That is why wealthy Romans spent at least part of their year down here. Continue reading

Nothing can prepare a visitor for what awaits them in Italy.  The beauty is overwhelming, the food is both simply and healthy, and Italians welcome others who wish to share the luck of their birth.
